About Our Process

1. Initial Contact & Consultation

Your new home starts with a conversation. When you reach out, we’ll schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals, timeline, budget, and vision. Whether you already have land or are still exploring your options, we’re here to help guide the process.

Have architectural plans already? Great. Still need a designer or engineer? We can connect you with trusted professionals we work with regularly.

2. Site Evaluation & Feasibility

Before we break ground, we assess the land’s condition, accessibility, zoning requirements, utility availability, and any county or municipal permitting regulations. We’ll help determine what’s possible based on your location, layout, and design goals.

We don’t just build—we plan with precision. Our feasibility checks save you time, money, and future headaches.

3. Design, Budgeting & Bid Proposal

Once we understand the scope and vision, we work closely with you and your design team (or ours) to develop the full construction plan. We’ll provide a detailed bid proposal that outlines the build process, materials, timelines, labor, and allowances—all clearly itemized for your review.

No hidden fees. No vague numbers. Just honest, transparent pricing and clear expectations.

4. Permitting & Pre-Construction Prep

We’ll handle the permitting process and coordinate with inspectors, utility companies, and subcontractors. This phase includes scheduling, mobilization, and any required excavation or grading work to prepare the site for foundation installation.

5. Construction Begins

From the foundation up, we execute every phase of your new build with quality, care, and attention to detail:

  • Foundation & Framing
Concrete footers, slab or crawlspace, structural framing, trusses, and roof decking.
  • Exterior Shell
Roofing, windows, doors, siding, insulation, and exterior wrap to secure your structure.
  • Rough-Ins
Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and any specialty systems like solar, home automation, or in-floor heat.
  • Interior Finishes
Drywall, texture, trim, flooring, cabinets, tile, fixtures, paint, appliances, and final details.

We provide regular progress updates, site walkthroughs, and communication throughout every stage of construction.

6. Final Inspections & Quality Control

Once construction is complete, we coordinate final inspections with your local jurisdiction and ensure everything passes to code. Our team also conducts a final walkthrough with you to review finishes, test systems, and address any last-minute items.

7. Move-In Ready & Warranty

Congratulations—it’s time to move into your new home! We’ll provide a warranty packet with coverage on workmanship, structural elements, and major systems, as well as helpful documentation on maintenance and care.

🔧 Should anything arise post-build, we stand by our work and will respond quickly to make it right.

About the Owner

Hi, I’m Matt — owner of Phantom Canyon Carpentry, and a proud tradesman, family man, and problem-solver by nature.

I got my start in the trades at 16, working my way through nearly every kind of hands-on job Colorado has to offer — from carpentry and plumbing to landscaping, facility maintenance, and tree service. After two decades of real-world experience, I founded Phantom Canyon Carpentry in 2020 to serve Fremont, El Paso, and Pueblo Counties with the kind of honest, high-quality work I’d want for my own family.

I hold a General A Contractor license, passed the ICC exam, and studied business management and accounting at CSU Pueblo. I also completed certifications in graphic design and multimedia communication, and I’m currently expanding my skills with a project management certification through Google.

But beyond the licenses and the tools, what drives me is leadership, integrity, and community. I believe in doing things the right way — showing up, working hard, and treating people with respect. I wouldn’t ask someone to do something I wouldn’t do myself, and I’m proud to be building a business my sons can look up to.

When I’m not on the job site, I’m usually with my wife and our two boys, either outdoors camping, fishing, riding dirt bikes, or coaching youth sports like wrestling, football, baseball, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (which I also train and compete in myself).

At Phantom Canyon, we don’t just build structures — we build relationships, solutions, and trust. If you’re looking for a contractor who’s local, experienced, and truly invested in your project’s success, I’d be honored to work with you.
